ABOUT SANTI PIE

GOODWINS BUTCHERY has now been collaborating with the famous SANTI’S PREMIUM PIES since 2014, a collaboration that has both enriched and completed our pie range !
All Santi’s pies are lovingly home-made by hand exclusively and from the freshest high-quality ingredients in a traditional kitchen setting. Her Pies are made with sparing use of salt and to a lesser extent black pepper, leaving you to add these to taste as required. Santi highly recommends serving pies with a little simple gravy on the side!
All pies arrive with you already cooked, individually wrapped with an aluminum foil base, vacuum packed, and frozen right after they’re cooled down - and with a generous and guaranteed minimum weight of 265 grams for the standard size pies and 95 grams for the Minis.

Here are some tips for making sure your pies arrive on your plate, and those of your family, in tip-top condition, follow this guidance and enjoy Santi’s pies at their very best!
  • Pies MUST be removed from any packaging (i.e. box/aluminium foil tray/vacuum packing plastic) before warming.
  • All pies are labelled with an “eat by date” on the bottom of their packaging and, in the fridge, they can be stored for up to 4 days after defrosting and before consumption
  • Defrosting naturally from the freezer at room temperature is generally achieved in 1-2 hours while defrosting time in the microwave is faster though more variable depending upon manufacturer and model but is typically 3-4 minutes on your unit’s defrosting setting. Defrosting with a microwave softens the pie crust some but most people are perfectly happy with this given that trade-off in time is so attractive for many.
  • Most prefer our pies hot, but a significant minority also like them at room temperature. Your choice!
  • Heating from a defrosted condition can be done in one of four ways that we are familiar with:
  • Using the traditional oven is the way to achieve “pie perfection” including retaining the crust’s condition – but it takes longer than the alternatives, needing the defrosted pie to be put in an oven preheated to 180-185 degrees centigrade for 20-25 minutes, depending upon your oven. Add ten minutes more if heating from frozen. To make the pie base crustier then you can put the pie upside down in the oven when heating.
  • Most models of microwave will do the job in 4-5 minutes. This softens the crust as mentioned above. Add the same amount of time if microwaving frozen.
  • The Air Fryer is a relatively new thing and one we have tried with success ourselves, and indeed comes highly recommended by several of our customers, who maintain that they get a perfect pie, without softening, in around 20 minutes. A little on the pricey side but is now widely available in Jakarta now from the likes of Lazada. Highly recommended if you don’t have an oven. Add perhaps 8 minutes if heating from frozen.
  • Another relatively recent development is the sandwich oven available from the likes of Ace hardware around 400,000 rupiah or less; these useful little things will bring the pie to the perfect temperature in around 10-12 minutes and without as much softening of the pie crust as microwaving. Add perhaps 6 minutes if heating from frozen.
  • Please enjoy your pies from Santi’s Premium Pies, a very full meal with any of mashed potato, chips, peas, broccoli etc.!!
